Buya likes to give disadvantaged women a voice and help young women and girls find meaning and purpose and thrive.
She has over 5 years of professional experience in Gender and development work.
With a background in Public Health and Community Development, she’s been involved in design and implementation of Protection projects (GBV, SGBV, and FGM), Advocacy programs, Youth and Women Empowerment, Civic Leadership and Governance, Socio economic and political empowerment of women and girls, Nutrition, Health and HIV projects, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and Water Sanitation and Hygiene.
She is the Executive Director of Empower HER Initiative a non profit that works in western Kenya to advance the rights of women and girls and also works as an Independent Consultant on Gender and development.
Buya has been honored as a champion of change and an exemplary leader by African Youth Leadership Forum.
In 2017, she emerged among the top 10 bold for change champions in Africa by Young African Women in Leadership.
She is a recipient of the prestigious Zuri Innovation Award, and was awarded the Sustainability innovation award by My Little Big Thing.
In 2019, she emerged among the top In the Global Social Thinkers Contest by British Council and Ashoka.
