Organization Overview
EHI is a non-profit that started as a peer-to-peer mentorship support program for female students across Kenyan universities in Western Kenya.
The organization was registered in 2019 and works across a number of programs that empower women and girls to become agents of social and economic change.
This simple act of responsibility has consistently grown over the years to a non-profit organization that impacts the lives of women and girls in the larger Western Kenya region with the head office at Amalemba Area, Kakamega Town, Kakamega County.

Inclusion, social and economic independence for young mothers in schools & colleges, young women leaders, adolescent girls, women with disabilities and women entrepreneurs in Kenya.

At the center of our work lies our commitment to our core values. Our core values form the foundation for who we are as an organization and how we represent ourselves in the community.
- Compassion: EHI recognizes the unique challenges faced by young mothers, young women leaders and women entrepreneurs in our community. Through effective programming, EHI aims to support the young mothers with psychosocial support and scholarships to complete their secondary and tertiary learning; and women entrepreneurs and young women leaders with entrepreneurship skills and leadership skills
- Diversity and Inclusion: EHI is a multicultural organization that honors the fundamental value and dignity of all individuals by maintaining a culture that respects and appreciates differences in age, gender, ethnicity, education, physical abilities, race, and religion among individuals. Our target group includes women from different ethnic groups, social classes, age, and level of education, religion and physical abilities. Our staff are drawn from different social strata, religion, gender and fields of expertise. EHI members of the Board are from diverse backgrounds.
- Openness & Trust: EHI fosters openness by actively encouraging transparent discussions, accounting for its resource use as per the required standards and being consultative and participative whenever possible. We share timely and appropriate information with our internal stakeholders. We share audit reports, project progress reports and financial reports with our external stakeholders. EHI fosters a strong sense of trust by delegating responsibility and trusting the EHI team to get the job done with minimal supervision, providing consistent and timely feedback and encouragement as well as providing honest feedback to our stakeholders.
- Strategic Partnership: EHI will optimize on its strategic partnerships to increase its impact on the target pollution. We work with our partners to enhance advocacy efforts by collectively advocating for women’s rights through strategic alliances.
EHI has won several awards in recognition of its exemplary work. These include:

Now-Us Award recognises inspiring inclusive initiatives from Africa and Asia that work to promote diversity and inclusion to trigger the self-empowerment of marginalised and excluded groups and communities. EHI emerged top in the 2023 competition, winning financial and technical assistance to advance its mission
- AMREF Hackathon Award 2023.
Issued by: AMREF International University Health Entrepreneurship and Innovation center. This award recognizes organizations that leverage on innovative solutions in addressing Primary Healthcare challenges through products and/or technology.
- Zuri Innovation Award
The aim of Zuri Awards is to recognize and fete exceptional women and organizations doing outstanding work in their communities. EHI’s young mothers support program is recognized as an innovative model.
- My Little Big Thing (MLBT) Innovation Award
EHI received an award from Africa’s biggest sustainability innovation challenge for its innovative and sustainable approach on women empowerment.
- Global Social Thinkers Award.
This award is by Ashoka and British Council to recognize top 10 youth-led organizations transforming communities in Africa
- Ambitious Girls 254 Award 2019
EHI recognized as a leading organization champion of women rights in Kenya.
- National Gender and Equality Commission, Usawa Awards.
EHI was feted by the Kenyan Government in 2021 among other 80 organizations championing Women rights in the country.
