Corona Virus Response & Measures

What Is Corona Virus (COVID-19)?

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with COVID-19 will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without special treatment.  Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

Novel Corona Virus

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well-informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes, and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently and not touching your face.

The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).t this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, many ongoing clinical trials are evaluating potential treatments.

Our Response & Measures

Over the past month, Empower HER has been supporting women, children, and vulnerable populations in Western Kenya during this global pandemic, and sponsoring hundreds of cloth masks to distribute among them in addition to health education.

While these masks are not replacements for surgical or N95 masks, which are in extremely high demand for health care workers, Our masks meet the CDC on Homemade cloth coverings standards: they; are secured with ties or ear loops include multiple layers of fabric, allow for breathing without restriction, and can be laundered without damage or change to shape. In our next phase, we are hoping to leverage the initiative to do some fundraising for another 5000 plus cloth face masks. We are now inviting the public to sponsor donations of masks to designated care home facilities and/or homeless people, crisis shelters for victims of domestic abuse, and voluntary children’s homes.
